Apprentices

You’ll learn how to conduct and manage maintenance of our plant and assets across our geothermal, hydro and/or thermal power stations. You’ll also gain exposure to site utilities and get to learn about planning work, shut down maintenance, and assist with troubleshooting and breakdowns.

• Monday-Friday work on-site, may involve shift work during outages and shutdowns.  

Four-year journey & each year is different as your knowledge, skills and experience grow with broad exposure across one of our generation sites.  

• Year One is about laying the foundations for success. Full-time supervision and guidance while working on basic tasks and building knowledge of plant and assets. 
• Year Two has an increasing level of independence with increasing levels of complexity working as part of a team assisting in the maintenance of plant and assets.  
• Year Three continue to build on complexity of work and build confidence in completing tasks independently. Potential secondments across sites for major outage experience.  
• Final year you will be gaining the depth of knowledge and experience required to be fully qualified and progress into a role as a Generation Technician. Secondments across sites for major outage experience.  

• 17 years old to apply (min).
• NCEA Level 2 Maths or relevant NZQA Level 3 Certificate.
• Pre-trade qualification is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Experience working well with others (e.g. work, sports teams, volunteering, clubs). 
• A good attitude, with a strong interest in the energy industry.  
• A good communicator, able to listen and ask questions.  
• A current driver’s licence (restricted or higher).
• Curious by nature, good with numbers and enjoy solving problems!
