Powering New Zealand's Energy Upgrade

What is the Energy Upgrade?

New Zealand’s energy system was built for a different time. Before smart homes, electric vehicles, Wi-Fi routers, mobile phones, connected TVs (to name just a few!). Before so much of daily life depended on electricity.

To keep up, Aotearoa needs a major upgrade to the way electricity is generated and moved around the county to avoid power shortages and even blackouts.

The Energy Upgrade is about making sure Aotearoa has the electricity it needs for life today, and generations to come.

Building New Zealand’s future energy system isn’t one big project. It’s happening all over the country, from geothermal power stations and solar farms to community initiatives and local partnerships.
